Decision on Sambasiva Rao recommendations soon: Dr Ramdoss

Puducherry, Apr 12 (UNI) Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramdoss today said the Centre would take a decision on the Sambasiva Rao Committee recommendations in few months.

Talking to newspersons at Mannadipet commune here, Dr Ramdoss said a 'National Urban Health Mission (NUHM)' on the lines of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) would be implemented in the country within four or five months.

The scheme would be implemented in towns and city headquarters having one lakh population. As many as 5.5 crore slum dwellers would be convered under a free insurance scheme under NUHM, he added.

The NUHM beneficiaries would be given health cards and would get free treatment from government or private hospitals.

An amount of Rs 12,000 crore was allocated for the scheme this year, he said.

The government had proposed to introduce a 'National Rural School children Health Scheme' in association with the Human Resource Development Ministry for which talks were on.

He also said the MCI rules would be relaxed to enable the people to set up private medical colleges under Public-Private Participation.
