Andaman to get first eye-care hospital
Port Blair, Apr 12 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon get a super-speciality state-of-the-art eye hospital.
Dr Rohinder Lall, former Ophthalmologist with Andaman government hospital, is the main force behind the project here.
''It is my dream project and I always knew that someday it will come true, where I can treat patient without any obligation of government hierarchy,'' Dr Lall told UNI yesterday.
Dr Lall was awarded with prestigious National Society for the Prevention of Blindness (NSPB) award 2005-06 in the field of community ophthalmology in 2006 He was also awarded the lieutenant Governor's Commendation Certificate in 2007.
With an initial investment of Rs one crore, Dr Lall said that he would be pumping Rs 1.5 crore more once the project is ready.
The hospital would have a pharmacy, a highly technical optical shop and a cafeteria.
According to Dr Lall, the Rohin Eye Hospital would have link with Kolkata-based Sunetra Eye Centre and efforts were on for a deal with Shankar Netralaya of Chennai.
