Ambala, Apr 11 (UNI) Two express trains were cancelled and seven including three Shatabdi trains, were diverted in the wake of closure of UP and DOWN rail lines between Delhi and Amritsar and Delhi-Kalka following derailment of oil wagons of a goods train near Ambala Cantt station early today.
The cancelled trains, which were terminated at Panipat, included Kalka-Panipat 4046 Down and Nizamuddin-Kalka 4095 Down.
Four express trains diverted via Rohtak, Jakhal, Dhuri and Ludhiana were Bhatinda-Delhi 4732, Mumbai-Jammu Tavi 2471, Dadar-Amritsar 1057 and Indore-Jammu Tavi 2919.
Three Shatabadi Express trains Delhi-Kalka 2011, Delhi-Amritsar 2029 and Swaran Shatabadi 2014 were also diverted via Sharanpur and were delayed by more than three hours to reach their destination.
However, the rail traffic was restored at around 1300 hrs, after about 9 hours. The ADRM Saxena said that the derailed wagons were removed from both the tracks by pressing into service two big cranes requisitioned from Delhi and Ludhiana.
The passengers who were to catch trains from Ambala Cantonment station, however, remained stranded for hours till the rail traffic was restored this afternoon.
Many of them had cancelled their journey by train and left by road to reach their destination.
