Madurai, Apr 11 (UNI) The devotees should take precautions while purchasing gold and silver ornaments being sold out by shops for offering to the Lord Subramania Swamy temple at Tirupparankundram in this district of Tamil Nadu.
Temple sources said the authorities at Tirupparankundram temple were shocked to found most of the gold and silver gifts donated to the temple by the devotees were imitations and not original.
The authorities opened the Hundis of the temple recently and found lots of mangal sutras, nose studs, rings made of gold and some silver ornaments.
However, when they verified the items with the goldsmiths, they found to their dismay that most of them were imitations.
An inquiry by the authorities revealed that the imitation items were sold to the devotees by the shops in and around the temple. The devotees were deceived by the traders.
A complaint had been lodged with the police and the matter was brought to the notice of the local Jewellery Association for initiating action against the errant traders, the sources added.
