Set up Central Madrasa Board: Shahi Imam to Government
New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Mosque, Mufti Mohammad Mukaram Ahmed, today urged UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately set up a Central Madrasa Board to protect and remove the ''misgivings'' abouts the Islamic centres of learning.
''We hope that after the constitution of the madrasa board, all registered Islamic centres of learning will be able to clear their image among those who are doubtful about the functioning of the madrasas,'' he said here.
If the board was constituted soon, Mufti Mukaram Ahmed said various related problems would get resolved on their own.
''It is a fact that our mosques and madrasas are the centres of worship and learning only,'' he added.
The Shahi Imam also sought the release of Maulana Ghulam Yahya, the former cleric of Mumbai Haj House, and demanded a high-level inquiry into his case.
