Sangma outlines new vision of Planning Board
Shillong, Apr 11 (UNI) Meghalaya Planning Board Chairman Purno A Sangma today outlined a new vision of the Planning Board as an agency for addressing future challenges of the economic aspects and human resources development.
''Restructuring of the Meghalaya Planning Board is the need of the hour. The Board will be no more a rehabilitation centre for defeating MLAs, but a place to be occupied by technocrats and experts to deal with the economic problems in the state,'' Mr Sangma said.
He said the government had decided to appoint three economists as the advisors of Planning Board, besides young and dynamic research officers in the Board.
Mr Phrang Roy, assistant president, External Affairs Department of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a United Nations specialised agency, has already been appointed as one of the advisors, Mr Sangma informed.
Mr Sangma said the Planning Board would mainly concentrate on creation of infrastructure and development of tourism and horticulture in the state.
