LeT suspects granted bail, remain in custody
Davangere, Apr 11 (UNI) Suspected LeT operatives Riyazuddin Nasir and Asadulla Abubakar were released on bail by a Honnali court today following the failure of the Karnataka police to file an FIR within the stipulated time.
However, the police said, the suspects would remain in custody as only one of them could produce the surety and more cases were pending against them in a Hubli court.
JMFC of Honnali Jinaralkar, while granting bail to the accused, observed that the state police had failed to file the FIR even after the lapse of the 90-day period.
The Honnali police, who apprehended the suspects on January 11, had charged them with seven counts including illegal possession of arms, theft of two wheelers and possession of fake documents.
Nasir and Asadulla were arrested when they were riding on a two-wheeler stolen from Goa.
Interrogations had revealed that they had links with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba and were on a 'mission' to trigger attacks in Karnataka and Goa.
Their arrest had led to arrest of five suspected SIMI activists in the state.
