11 kg heroin, 3 kg cocaine seized in Punjab by DRI
Ludhiana, Apr 11 (UNI) Sleuths of the Directorate Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 11 kg heroin and three kg cocaine from two different places in Punjab today.
DRI sources here said that a DRI team intercepted a smuggler identified as Navjot Arora near Doraha in the district early this morning. On search of his vehicle 11 kg heroin was recovered.
The DRI team got a case registered at the Doraha police station and on Arora's preliminary interrogation another DRI team from Ludhiana was dispatched to Phagwara where a notorious narcotics smuggler identified as Pushpinder Singh was nabbed with three kg cocaine in the Guru Teg Bahadur locality of the town this afternoon.
Pushpinder was also later arrested under the NDPS Act.
The DRI team which arrested Navjot Arora met with an accident near Doraha when the smuggler made an attempt to escape. The vehicle in which the team was travelling along with the smuggler fell into a canal after the driver lost control of the vehicle following a scuffle between the smuggler and the DRI officials.
However despite injuries the DRI sleuths did not allow the smuggler to escape and even succeeded in passing on the information given by Arora to their Ludhiana office. This vital and timely information led to the seizure of three kg cocaine in Phagwara.
The injured DRI officials were later admitted to a hospital here.
