Puducherry, Apr 10: The Puducherry administration will consider constructing separate school buildings to accommodate plus one and plus two classes only, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan told the Territorial Assembly today.
Replying to a question, he said that eventhough the administration intended to expand the schools to accommodate more students in plus one and plus two classes, lack of space remained a hindrance.
To the complaint from members that students of the same school could not get admission for plus one, the Minister said admissions to plus one and plus two were on the basis of merit. Hence, a student with more marks, eventhough from a private school, would automatically get admitted and the student who had studied up to tenth in the same school would have to go to rural areas.
To another question, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy said the administration would set up 200 new anganwadi centres in the Union Territory in another two months.
