Srinagar, Apr 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated a number of measures for the rehabilitation of 2005 victims of snow storm in south Kashmir.
An amount of over Rs one crore has been spent so far on construction of 33 houses for the snow victims in the first phase, while work is apace on 59 houses, which would cost Rs 2.24 crore, an official spokesman said.
He said to review the measures being taken for rehabilitation of snow victims of these villages, including Walteingu Nar, Gojar Basti, Nagras, Pachgam, Neigipora, Newbug and Wajinar, the District Development Commissioner, Kulgam convened a meeting of senior district officers here today.
He said that the Animal Husbandry department has provided Rs 9.60 lakhs to the Gujjar families of these areas for setting up 30 income generating dairy units while 30 more such units are being set up soon.
The Sheep Husbandry is funding 30 sheep units for the victims out of which 22 sheep units have been establish by March 2008, while rest 8 units will set up shortly.
