Haryana Congman deserts party to be BSP candidate from Gurgaon
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) A senior Congressman from Haryana Zakir Husain, who today deserted his party and joined the BSP, will be the latter's candidate from the Gurgaon constituency in the next Lok Sabha elections.
His candidature was announced by BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati at a press conference here.
Mr Husain is the son of former Congress minister and MP late Tayyed Husain and was heading the Mewat Congress unit before joining the BSP.
Welcoming Mr Husain in the party and introducing him to mediapersons, Ms Mayawati said he and his father had played a very influential role in Haryana politics, and she was happy that he had embraced the BSP now.
The BSP chief had called the press conference to give her reaction to today's Supreme Court judgement on the 27 per cent OBC quota in higher educational institutions.
