New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Union Human Resource Development Minister Minister Arjun Singh today described the Supreme Court judgement upholding 27 per cent quota for OBC students in higher education institutions, including IITs and IIMs, as a vindication of his and the UPA government's stand and said the Government would like to see its implementation from the coming academic session.
''It is a historic judgement that would benefit hundreds of students belonging to the OBCs,'' he told reporters here shortly after the judgement was given.
On the apex court excluding the creamy layer from the benefit of the quota, Mr Singh said the issue had some problem and would have to be sorted out.
''I am sure all those who support equity in access to higher education will hail this judgement,'' said the eleated HRD Minister for whom ensuring the 27 per cent reservation had become a prestigious issue.
He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had already made it clear that no one would be excluded from access to higher education.
