5 injured in mob violence in Vadodara, 26 held
Vadodara, Apr 10 (UNI) At least five people were injured in communal clashes in Vadodara city after a place of worship was desecrated by a mob in the sensitive Panigate area here last night.
Police resorted to lathicharge and lobbed 9 teargas shells to disperse the stone-pelting mob which also set ablaze four vehicles.
Altogether 26 persons had been arrested so far in connection with the rioting incident, police sources said.
As the news about the desecration of the place of worship spread, people took to the streets and indulged in heavy stone Pelting.
It took nearly an hour for the police to bring the situation under control in the troubled areas. Following the incident, all police stations in the violence-prone walled city areas were alerted and night patrolling was intensified.
Today most of the shops in the violence-hit areas remained closed.
