Bangalore, Apr 9 (UNI) Members of the 'Women Wing' of the Karnataka Congress today staged a dharna in front of the KPCC office here demanding adequate representation to women in the coming Assembly elections in the state.
The women leaders and workers holding placards demanded 33 per cent reservation in the party tickets and urged the party to allot more number of seats for fairer gender representation.
The agitation was led by the members of the city unit of the party. They were joined by Legislative Council member Mallajamma.
The dharna was held when senior party leaders, including Union Ministers and Karnataka party in-charge Prithviraj Chavan and Vayalar Ravi, KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge and others, were holding a meeting inside the KPCC office.
Later, Mr Kharge came out from the meeting and heard the woman members' grievances and promised to convey their feelings to party high command.
''It is also the desire of Party President Sonia Gandhi to accommodate more number of women and youth in the Congress list.
Taking into consideration of their winning chances, the party will take a suitable decision on it,'' Mr Kharge assured.
