Puducherry, Apr 9 (UNI) The Puducherry assembly today witnessed uprorious scenes over the issue of region wise appointments in Group "C" posts, forcing Speaker R Radhakrishnan to allow half-an-hour of discussion on the issue on another day during the current session.
Answering a question, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the territorial administration has been following the centre's norms and guidelines in the appointments. Hence, a region wise appointment was not possible.
Leader of the opposition A M H Nazeem who posed the question pointed out that the number of government employees from Karaikal region was gradually coming down and wanted the government to initiate proper steps to check this. AT this juncture, the Chief Minister said for Group "D" posts, the government was following the norm to appoint those hailing from the region.
The statement of the Chief Minister was refuted by Mr Nazeem who said that in Group "D" posts also people from Puducherry region are being posted in Karaikal and cited the example of appointments in the welfare department.
As all the members from Karaikal region joined the issue, the House was plunged into uproar.
Speaker R Radhakrishnan intervened and said that the members could not have a debate on Question Hour and several questions had to be taken up in the House.
He said if needed, he could permit only half-an-hour discussion on the issue at a later date. The members agreed to his suggestion.
