Two Municipal workers killed and three fell ill due to suffocation
Mysore, Apr 9 (UNI) In a tragic incident, two Municipal workers were killed and three others fell ill due to suffocation while cleaning a manhole at K R Nagara, 40 km from here, today.
Police said that Kariya (36) and Lakshmana (40) opened the manhole lid and entered into 15 feet for cleaning purpose. When they did not return for a long time, their three colleagues entered and fell unconscious due to suffocation.
However, Police who rushed to spot, with the help of Fire Force, removed all the five who had fallen unconscious and rushed to Hospital where Doctors declared Kariya and Lakshmana as brought dead. Other three were rushed to K R Hospital here for treatment.
Following the incident, the workers staged demonstration in front of the Hospital demanding compensation to the family members of the deceased.
Assistant Commissioner M R Ravi pacified them assuring compensation from the government. The agitators also alleged that they were not given proper kit for cleaning works.
