Student attempts to kill junior for spurning his love

Vijayawada, Apr 9 (UNI) Police arrested a fourth year student of KLC Engineering College who attempted to murder a third-year girl student by slitting her throat with a sword in front of her family members at Bapanayanagar in Krishna Lanka here today.

Police said the fourth year student Sandeep resorted to the ghastly act as Meenakumari spurned his love.

The accused barged into the victim's house and asked the girl to marry him, which she refused. Later, in a fit of rage Sandeep attacked her with a sword.

Meenakumari, who suffered bleeding injuries was admitted to Government General Hospital, where her condition was reported to be critical.

Sandeep, whom the police arrested, was admitted to the same hospital when he had attempted to commit suicide by slashing his wrist with the same sword.

City Central Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sriramachandramurthy said a case under Section 307 of IPC was registered against Sandeep.
