Patna, Apr 9: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the evaluation of statistics was important for development as well as execution of the welfare schemes. After releasing a book ''Glimpses of Bihar : 2007, State Domestic Product: 1999-2000 to 2006-07 and district domestic product : 1999-2000 to 2006-07'', Mr Kumar outlined the importance for statistics and told newspersons here that it helped achieve the target.
Apart from the data collected by the government agencies, the facts and figures projected by other agencies, including media and researchers, were compiled for analysing the developmental works, he said. He said the government had earmarked Rs 13,500 crore for planned expenditure and the statistical data was essential for the utilisation of the fund and its evaluation.
Mr Kumar also announced to fill the vacant posts of the statistics directorate for strengthening and streamlining its functioning.
Welfare schemes could be designed and executed more effectively through statistical analysis, he stated.
Also speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary to Planning and Development department Rameshwar Singh said collection, compilation and dissemination were important in statistical analysis of the schemes.
