Rs 7 lakhs looted from Gramin Bank's rural branch
Hooghly, Apr 09 (UNI) Cash of at least Rs seven lakhs was looted from West Bengal Gramin Bank's Belmuri branch under Dhaniakhali police station last night.
When the bank employees came in this morning, they found the shutters of the bank broken and the vault emptied of all its contents. Police said the vault had been broken with the help of gas-cutters.
Bank's branch manager Adheer Sarkar said that the bank, having daily transaction of around Rs seven lakhs, had only that much in its vault from the previous day's business. The total number of customers of the branch is 7,000, he added.
Mr Sarkar said police had been informed.
Additional SP Debashis Boral said investigation had already begun. However, no arrests had been made.
Since, the bank had totally been emptied of cash, transaction will remain suspended for the day, said the branch manager.
