Pro-Kannada activists ransack function in star hotel
Bangalore, Apr 9: Protesting against the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) for not accommodating the local taxi operators, pro-Kannada outfit Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV) ransacked a venue in a five star hotel here where the launch of a taxi service was about to be held.
Atleast 20 KRV activists went to the hotel last night where the function to launch the Meru Radio Taxi Services was about to begin, and smashed the stage. After ransacking the place they fled away.
V-Link Taxis had announced the launch of 'Meru,' a metered radio taxi service in the city, with the deployment of 500 'Logan' air-conditioned vehicles to start with.
The Vedike said they would not allow the 'outsiders' to operate taxi services as it would affect the members of local Taxi Owners and Drivers Association, which were demanding permission to ply their vehicles in the private owned BIA airport.
