No threat over Kanpur test match, says UP govt

Kanpur, Apr 9 (UNI) Denying that any intelligence threat was looming large over the third Test the Uttar Pradesh government today clarified that elaborate security arrangements had been made for the India-South Africa face-off scheduled to be played at the Green Park stadium from April 11.

''There is no such threat or intelligence input...neither have we received any such warning letter from Delhi police, but still the state government has made elaborate security arrangements at the stadium for the players and other officials,'' Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (Crime, Law and Order) Brij Lal told newspersons here.

Even cellphones, water bottles and entry of solid articles has been restricted inside the stadium, he informed.

Security has been heightened at the Landmark hotel, where both the teams would stay, the ADG maintained.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officers had been deputed as camp commandant, two Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and some section of Provincial Armed Constabulaty (PAC) have also been garrisoned at the hotel, Mr Lal clarified.

Whereas, 11 ASP, 28 Deputy SP, eight company PAC and 2,800 other senior officers would be on duty inside and outside the stadium.

To avert any untoward incident, dog squad and anti-sabotage squad would also be pressed into service, the ADG said adding, CCTvs had been intsalled at entry and exit points of the Green Park stadium and jammers fixed.

As water bottles would not be allowed inside, water pouches would be made available to people inside the stadium, while arrangement of 30 water tankers done for outside the stadium.
