Miscreants gouge out man's eyes due to family rivalry

Puri, Apr 9 (UNI) An old family feud prompted miscreants to display the worst form of cruelty when they gouged out both the eyes of a man at Sunamuhin village under Pipili police station near here.

According to an FIR filed by the victim Bharat Swain, one Dillu Pradhan and others of his village pounced on him while he was returning home last night and gouged out both his eyes from the sockets.

They escaped from the spot after terrorising the passers-by by hurling few bombs.

Some of his co-villagers who arrived on the spot rushed profusely bleeding Bharat to Pipili hospital.

Later, he was shifted to SCB medical college and hospital, Cuttack, as his condition deteriorated.

A criminal case was registered by the Pipili police and investigation was on.

Police managed to nab one of the accused and were interrogating him.

Puri Superintendent of Police Asit Kumar Panigrahi deployed armed police in the village as both the warring families had formed groups and had a number of clashes in the past.

Police said the attack was a part of their long standing feud.
