New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) Top Left leaders may court arrest here on April 19 as part of their week-long nation-wide protests along with the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) from next Wednesday to highlight the government's 'failure' to check runaway prices.
''There is a proposal to launch a 'jail bharo andolan' in a big way to demonstrate the people's anger and disenchantment with the Manmohan Singh Government on the twin issue of inflation and price rise,'' CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told UNI after he had an hour-long meeting with his CPI(M) counterpart Prakash Karat on the issue.
Mr Karat said ''we are planning to do something on April 19 but the final programme will be chalked out in consultation with other Left parties and UNPA allies.'' The Left parties and the UNPA are holding a convention here on April 19 on the price rise issue at which eminent economists Bimal Jalan and Arjun Sengupta are also expected to take part.
Mr Bardhan said the agitation might not be possible on April 18 in view of the Mahavir Jayanti.
