Karnataka villagers decide to boycott Assembly elections
Madikeri, Apr 9(UNI) Protesting against their village not being provided electric supply despite a number of complaints given to authorities, the villagers of Devarakolli near Madikeri in the hilly Kodagu district have decided to boycott coming Assembly elections in Karnataka.
Over 400 villagers had signed a statement this effect and submitted it to the Deputy Commissioner and copies of which had been sent to media persons.
They said although the village was situated on Madikeri-Mangalore highway electric facility had not been provided by the officials.
During last elections, the political leaders had assured that the village would be provided electricity immediately after the elections. But the representatives neglected the issue after they won in the election.
The village had Anganvadi and a primary school. But many residents were not been provided the right over land they had been cultivating for many generations, the villagers said.
