Kolkata, Apr 9 (UNI) On the line of the ruling Left Front, the Congress today appealed to the Trinamool Congress to withdraw the proposed 12-hour ''Bangla Bandh'' on April 21 as it was coinciding with the last date of withdrawal of nominations for coming Panchayat election.
Addressing mediapersons, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Manas Bhuniya said the bandh, if not withdrawn, would come in the way of completion of the three-tier poll.
'' We are concerned about the price hike of essentials and the UPA government at the Centre is leaving no stone unturned to control the price rise, '' Mr Bhuniya observed.
'' Observation of bandh will not help control the price hike. On the contrary, it will halt the completion of the Panchayat poll, '' he maintained.
Left Front Chairman Biman Bose also made a similar appeal to the Trinamool Congress yesterday requesting the party to withdraw or defer the bandh.
Meanhwile, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, however, ruled out deferring or withdrawing the bandh.
