Phagwara, Apr 8 (UNI) The Punjab Police busted a gang of smugglers having overseas connections and seized 10 kg heroin worth Rs 10 crore in the international market.
Three members of this gang, operating in India, France, Pakistan, UAE, England some other countries were taken into custody.
They were identified as Paramjit Singh Pamma of Ghulal village in Ludhiana district, Kashmir Singh of Nurpur village in Gurdaspur district and Vijay Kumar, a jeweller of Jalandhar. They were nabbed on a tip off by a police party headed by DSP H P S Khakh near Jagjitpur village on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road last evening when they were going to deliver the consignment to an unknown customer in a car.
Giving details Kapurthala SSP Rakesh Aggarwal disclosed today that one of the arrested persons, Kashmir Singh was an active member of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and during the phase of militantcy in the state he remained associated with Baldev Singh Dorangla, a top BKI terrorist who was later killed in an encounter.
The three were arrested were made under sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act.
The SSP said that Kashmir Singh, facing cases of robberies and murders at several places had links with a France based NRI identified as Babbu, who belonged to Gurdaspur. Babbu in turn had links with a Pakistan based terrorist, who in turn had connections in the UAE.
The SSP said that this gang was also involved in hawala rackets.
