Students continue relay hunger strike at BESU
Howrah, Apr 08 (UNI) The Students Federation of India (SFI) today presented a charter of demands to Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) Vice-Chancellor Nikhil Ranjan Bannerjee and Registrar.
SFI sources said their demands included withdrawal of all legal cases against the ''innocent'' students, immediate holding of union elections and initiating legal action against those responsible for the violence in the campus premises.
The SFI would also hold a meeting with West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi later today to discuss the issue, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the students coninued their relay hunger strike, initiated on April 3, to demand immediate removal of police forces from the campus premises.
The students said they would continue their agitation until their demands were met.
The committee, headed by former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Parshomoni Chatterjee, appointed to probe into the violence in the campus premises and identify the culprits, would begin its investigation tomorrow, university sources said.
