Kerala: Ramadas wins Daniel award
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 8: P Ramadas, who produced and directed the first neo-realistic film in Malayalam, has been chosen for the J C Daniel award, in recognition for his contribution to the Malayalam film industry.
Announcing the award, Kerala Cultural Minister M A Baby said here yesterday that the award, carrying a cash prize of Rs one lakh, will be presented to Mr Ramadas at a function to be held here.
Mr Baby said a seven-member committee with noted Malayalam film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, as its Chairman, elected Mr Ramadas for the award.
'Newspaper Boy,' produced in 1955 by a a group of students, was said to be the first realistic film that paved the way for serious filmmakers.
