Mohali, Apr 8 (UNI) A Punjab Police Head Constable allegedly shot dead his wife and son and later committed suicide at his residence in the LIC colony in Mundi Kharar village on the outskirts of the town on the Chandigarh-Ropar highway today.
According to police sources here, Bhupinder Singh opened fire from a .12 bore gun killing his wife Jaswinder Kaur and seriosuly injuring his son Amit Gill alias Robin. He then shot himself and died.
Kharar DSP Raj Balwinder Singh who reached the spot said a constable Dev Raj, who was with Police Control Room patrol team, heard the sound of three shots and immediately rushed to the spot.
On reaching the site, he found the bodies of the husband and wife while the son, who was profusely bleeding, told the constable that his father had shot him and his mother.
The son, an engineering student, was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh where he scummbed to his injuries.
The deceased constable was posted at Patiala but currently on duty at the Punjab Home Guards headquarters in Sector-17, Chandigarh. The police has registered a case and were investigating the reasons.
