Pawar to present Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards 2007 on Apr 10

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) Minister of Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sharad Pawar will present to 14th Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for 2007 to five enterprises, including two in the small-scale sector here on April 10, 2008.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Awards have been established to give special recognition to manufacturing and service sector organiszations considered to be leaders of quality movement in India.

Given annually by the Bureau of Indian Standards, these awards were instituted in 1991 and have been designed in line with similar awards in developed countries, such as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in US, the Deming Prize in Japan and the European Quality Award.

The five National Awards include one award each for large-scale and small-scale companies in the manufacturing and service sectors, and one 'best of all' award. The awards for 2007 are: 1 Best of all Award : Steel Authority of India Limited- Bokaro Steel Plant, Bokaro 2 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry : Tata Motors Limited- Commercial Vehicle Business Unit - Pune Plant, Pune 3 Large Scale Service Industry : Tata Ryerson Limited, Jamshedpur 4 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry : TV Super Filter Industries, Jammu 5 Small Scale Service Industry : Wealthmax Enterprises Management Private Limited, Bengaluru In addition to the above awards, the following sixteen organisations have been selected for commendation certificates under various categories: 1 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Biotechnology: Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, Jalgaon 2 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Chemical: Indian Oil Corporation Limited - Guwahati Refinery, Guwahati 3 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Electrical and Electronic : Rajasthan Atomic Power Station - ITO 4, Kota 4 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Engineering: Mahindra and Mahindra Limited-Farm Equipment Sector, Mumbai 5 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Food&Drug : Valsad District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited, Alipur, Navsari 6 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Metallurgical : Hindalco Industries Limited, Renukoot, Sonbhadra 7 Large Scale Manufacturing Industry Textiles: RSWM Limited, Kharigram, Bhilwara 8 Large Scale Service Industry Healthcare : B.M. Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata 9 Large Scale Service Industry Others : Indian Oil Corporation Limited - Barauni Kanpur Pipeline, Begusarai 10 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Chemical : SFP Sons (India) Private Limited, Chennai 11 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Electrical and Electronic : Servomax India Limited, Hyderabad 12 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Engineering: John's Umbrella Mart, Alleppey 13 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Food&Drug : Tasty Dairy Specialities Limited, Kanpur 14 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Metallurgical : JP Foundries, Belgaum 15 Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Textile : Jet Knitwears Private Limited, Kanpur 16 Small Scale Service Industry Healthcare : Kailas Super Speciality Dental Clinic&Implant Centre, Kollam These awards are aimed at encouraging the quality movement in India by: -encouraging Indian industry to make significant improvements in quality for maximizing consumer satisfaction and for successfully facing competition in the global market as well; -recognising the achievements of those organisations which have improved the quality of their products and services and thereby set an example for others; -establishing guidelines and criteria that can be used by industry in evaluating their own quality improvement efforts; and by providing specific guidance to other organisations that wish to learn how to achieve excellence in quality, by making available detailed information on the 'Quality Management Approach' adopted by award winning organisations to change their culture and achieve eminence.
