No infiltration in last 6 months from LoC in Jammu: GOC 39 Mtn Div
Kalal, on LoC in Rajouri, Apr 8 (UNI) Past six months has been a most peaceful phase along Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region with almost zero infiltration bids by the militants from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir PoK).
''There has been no incident of infiltration (from the LoC) since September last year,'' Maj Gen Rajinder Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 39 Mountain (Dah) Division, said on the sidelines of a function here today.
The Division Commander attributed this absolute drop in the infiltration bids to the local population, which ''have stopped their support to militants''.
Maj Gen Singh also commended the role being played by the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) against the militancy.
''Women VDC members, which we have trained, can retaliate to any action of the militants,'' the GOC said, asserting that the troops were kept on high alert to check any infiltration bid as the last which foiled in September 2007.
The 39 Mountain Division, which mans the 43-km-long stretch of barbed LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, had launched several people-friendly programmes under 'Operation Sadhbhavna.' ''These Sadbhavna programmes, which also included health and educational care of locals, have been proved beneficial,'' Maj Gen Singh said, while replying to a query on security situation in the twin bordering districts.
Meanwhile, he also launched phase II of ''Khidmat-e-Khalaq'' project under Op Sadhbhavana, which aims at providing comprehensive healthcare for border belt of the area.
