Shillong, Apr 7 (UNI) Meghalaya Director General of Police B K Dey Sawian has proceded on long leave protesting the ruling Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government's sudden transfer of his junior officer, a police official said today.

Mr Sawian took leave for three weeks from April two after the Home Department issued the transfer order of Additional DGP in-charge CID Anil Pradhan as Inspector General of Police, in-charge Prison, without following the Police Establishment Board, the official said.

According to the Police Establishment Board, set up as per the provisions of the Supreme Court, the government could not issue transfer order without consulting the Board.

The Board, set up in 2007, has the members, including the DGP and three seniormost officials. '' All the transfers should be first recommended by the Board and in the case of Mr Pradhan, the matter was not even discussed, '' the police official said.

'' I was not informed about Mr Pradhan's transfer, '' Mr Sawian said adding nothing was discussed in the Police Establishment Board.

However, the DGP refused to divulge further on the matter.

Mr Pradhan was the first bureaucrat to be removed by the MPA government.
