New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary D Raja today said the Left continues to oppose the Indo-US Nuclear Agreement unflinchingly.
''Our position on the 123 Agreement remains the same. Left will hold the dialogue with the UPA goverment on the issue after April 15,'' he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar here.
The deal is not in the national interest, he said adding ''we have told the government not to proceed to operationalise the agreement.'' Mr Raja, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, said increase in prices is a major concern and the Left will launch a nationwide agitation on April 17-18 against inflation.
The UPA government has failed to initiate long and short term strategy to contain the hike, he said. There has neither been focus on increasing the agricultural production in the country nor the government has done enough to strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS).
''Government should ban futures trading and amend the Essential Commodities Act,'' he said.
