Mumbai, Apr 8 (UNI) The ''Gladrags Mega Model'' and ''Manhunt'' search has picked up momentum with finalists from across the country and abroad eyeing the April 27 D-Day.
The Finalists--24 girls and 21 men, selected over three months and groomed for a month, are in the fray for the title.
''I received a lot of flak when I was starting out, especially the 'Manhunt' contest, now I get an overwhelming response,'' Gladrags Beauty Pageants president Maureen Wadia said while speaking to mediapersons here today.
Today, there is no longer a gap between contestants from smaller towns and cities as youngsters from smaller cities are as clued to trends and happenings as those in the metros, she added.
''Though one cannot be transformed in a month, the best qualities of the contestants are polished at Gladrags. I use to associate beauty only with women, but now I realise men can also be beautiful in their way, with sense of humour for instance,'' television personality Shekar Suman, who will host the finals, said.
Also encouraging the year's contestants were past winners Anchal Kumar and Chetan Hansraj, who urged the contestants to grab the opportunity and not to be afraid to make mistakes.
''I would advice the new generation of models-to-be to be confident. Even if they make a faux pas, they should do it with confidence,'' Hansraj said. ''May the best man win,'' Anchal added.
Gladrags holds the distinction of being the only unisex model contest in the world and has propelled the careers of the fashion industry's top models like John Abraham, Dino Morea, Shamoly Verma, Mehr Jessia and Aishwarya Rai.
