Bengalis resolve to promote their literature in Andaman
Port Blair, Apr 8 (UNI) A reasonably good assemblage of Bengali community in a high level meeting at Port Blair today vouched for futhering the promotion of Bengali literature and culture in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The remote Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is dominated by Bengalis, but, the islanders feel that their literature is witnessing a diminishing trend in Andaman.
This along with a spate of other issues relating to the community was expressed at the first general body meeting of Andaman and Nicobar Bangla Bhasha Shiksha O Shipla Sanskriti Parishad held here.
Prominent Bengali citizens of the Island expressed the need to promote Bengali literature and culture.
''We must first work for qualitative education in Bengali language in these islands, which is the key,'' said Snehomoy Dey, the President of the Parishad.
The meeting took note of various problems facing the community, particularly the Bengali medium students, and resolved to address these in the greater interest of the people in these islands.
