Car Nicobar, A&N Islands, Apr 7 (UNI) People living in the worst tsunami-hit Car Nicobar Island today flocked Tamaloo village to witness Public Information Campaign Bharat Nirman, which came as the first mega-event for them in the post-2004 tsunami.

The venue for the UPA government's Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign was John Richardson Stadium of Car Nicobar, nearly 200 m from Malacca village, which was totally washed away by the giant waves of Tsunami.

Car Nicobar is the capital island of tribal-dominated, Nicobar Group, which bore the maximum brunt of tsunami catastrophe, in which nearly 3,800 people died and property worth crores were damaged.

Tribal and non-tribal population, who had braved the tsunami curse, four years back, today thronged the stadium in thousands to participate in the inauguration.

Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Island Arvind Ray inaugurated the Bharat Nirman Campaign of Car Nicobar, which will continue for three days.

''Islanders should make use of information being given, regarding various flagship programmes of Union government, in different stalls of the campaign,'' Mr Ray told the gathering in his inaugural speech.

Altogether, 40 departments of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Central government, Public Sector Units, NGOs and Tribal Councils are participating in the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign.

''Conducting the campaign in this remote island was a real challenge, but the District Administration of Nicobar Islands and Tribal Councils are providing us all the necessary assistance in these remote islands, to make this PIC a grand success,'' O N Jaiswal, the incharge of Press Information Bureau in Andaman told UNI.
