President to inaugurate concluding session of celebrations
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 7 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil will inaugurate the concluding session of golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Assembly here on April 30, Speaker K Radhakrishnan said here today.
Governor R L Bhatia, Chief Minister V S Achutanandan and Opposition Leader in the state Assembly Oommen Chandy, among others, would be present on the occasion, he told reporters.
The golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Legislative Assembly was inaugurated by Guv Bhatia on April 27, 2007.
As part of the celebrations, an orientation programme on Assembly and media to be held tomorrow, which would focus on the media's role in the last 50 years of the Kerala Assembly and the special rights of the Assembly.
State leaders of different political parties would speak at the 'Kerala: past, present and future' seminar, which would be inaugurated by Defence Minister A K Antony on April 25.
Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan would inaugurate a seminar on 'Legistature, Executive and Judiciary' on April 26. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed would inaugurate a discussion on 'Improving the performance of the Assembly'.
The session, to be held on April 28, would see former speakers, MLAs who had served the Assembly for long terms.
The suggestions that would come out would be handed over to the Rules Committee to scrutinise it.
An exhibition, depicting the history of the Assembly, would also be held from April 22 to 26.
Apart from this, a sports event would be conducted for MLAs and employees of the Assembly on April 23 and 24.
Former Chief Minister K Karunakaran would inaugurate the Assembly Day celebrations, which falls on April 27.
