Lara Bingle and Michael Clarke in petrol bungle

By Staff

Melbourne, Apr 7 : Australian cricketer Michael Clarke and his model wife-to-be Lara Bingle's engagement part had all champagne and celebrities, but the glamour was gone on Sunday when Michael Clarke was left pushing Bingle's car down the road after she ran out of petrol.

The Australian cricketer came to his fiancee's rescue when she was caught out while driving at Cronulla in Sydney with a friend yesterday morning.

Clarke, 27, went to a nearby BP petrol station and bought fuel and a jerry can and returned to Bingle's Ford 4WD to fill it up.

But when the car still failed to start he signalled to the traffic to make way for the 4WD and, putting his training to good use, began pushing the black Ford Territory about 100m down the road.

Four locals joined Clarke, who was wearing a white T-shirt and tracksuit pants, to help him get it to the petrol station forecourt.

Bingle, wearing a black top and pants, and sunglasses, and her friend were chatting and laughing while her knight in shining armour took control at the petrol station.

After finally successfully filling the car up they drove off in opposite directions.

Bingle and her gal pal were later spotted enjoying a late breakfast at a Cronulla Beach cafe, the Daily Telegraph reported.

On Friday, Bingle and Clarke had celebrated their engagement with 300 of their nearest and dearest at a function centre at Luna Park.

TV presenter Laura Csortan, Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and his pregnant wife Rhianna, retired NSW teammate Glenn McGrath and commentator Michael Slater were among the guests. Celebrity accountant Anthony Bell was MC.

The lovebirds, who met through the TV show Dancing on Ice, became engaged in New York last month. The sportsman presented her with a 4.7-carat pear-shaped diamond ring worth 200,000 dollars.
