F1 is a dream but current focus is on F3, says 17-yr-old Ashwin

By Staff

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) India's latest sensation in motor racing, Ashwin Sundar, has his sights set on the formula one circuit but the Chennai lad's current focus is to put up a good show in the formula 3 series.

''Formula one is a dream but to think about it at this point of time would be a little too early. Right now my focus is more on the upcoming German Formula ADAC Championship,'' Ashwin told UNI here today.

The 17-year-old was officially awarded a three-year contract by German racing team MaCon Motorsports today after he emerged the best amongst the eight racers who were invited by Ma-Con for testing sessions.

The reigning national racing champion in Formula Swift and Hyundai class, Ashwin, has not only proven his talent and success in car racing but has won many awards and championships including the 'Champion of Champions 2008' in motorbiking.

But the younster claimed that it was motor racing that he wants to pursue his career in.

''With the amount of risk involved with bikes, they are more fun to ride.'' he said. ''But now, car racing is what I am focussing on and will take it as my career.'' Ashwin, however, accepted that it will be a little difficult for him to adjust to the conditions and cars in Germany but he was confident that he will continue his good form that he has had in the past.

''There is a lot of difference in the technologies involved with the cars in India and abroad. But motor racing is getting a great response in India and I am personally looking forward to the race track here.

''Motor racing is getting a great boost in India as earlier we had a handful of racers but today the talent is aplently,'' he added.

Replying to a question about who his role model was Aswhin disclosed that ''Narain Karthikeyan's role in Indian motor racing can never be ignored but Michael Schumacher is also someone whom I look up to.'' UNI RAR AB PM1636
