New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Expenditure Finance Committee of Delhi Government today gave its approval to two projects for building grade separators at Ghazipur Crossing NH-24 bypass and T-Point Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar with an aim to provide free flow of traffic and prevent congestion in these areas.

The projects, worth Rs 377 crore, were cleared in an EFC meeting presided over by Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia.

Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, Dr Walia said a three-level Grade Separator at Ghazipur Crossing NH-24 By-Pass and Road No 56 and a Grade Separator at T-Point Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and NH-1 Junction would be commissioned before commencement of 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Grade separators are being constructed with an aim to provide free flow of traffic, prevent congestion of heavy volume of traffic, and to save valuable fuel and time of travel and curb level of air pollution.

Rs 249 crore has been approved for construction of a Grade Separator at Ghazipur Crossing which would provide free flow of traffic for the Yamuna Sports Complex, one of the venues of the Commonwealth event.

It will take 27 months to complete construction. This would include construction of an underpass at crossing of NH-24 and Road No 56.

The three level Grade Separator, once commissioned, would provide relief to those large number of commuters and vehicle owners who have been witnessing huge traffic jam daily.

This would also facilitate smooth flow of traffic between number of colonies of Ghaziabad in UP and Trans-Yamuna colonies of Delhi.

Dr Walia further stated that a Grade Separator at T point-Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and NH1 junction on NH-1 would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 138 crore within 30 months after the award of work.

This would prove to be a great facilitator in ensuring signal-free traffic on the GT Karnal Road. This would also provide much needed relief to inter-state commuters who are otherwise forced to face unwarranted waiting on the road. It would also prove to be a supplementary facilitator after commissioning of Mukarba Chowk Grade Separator on that very road.
