Breakthrough in robbery case, seven arrested
Itanagar, Apr 07 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, Arunachal Pradesh police arrested seven persons involved in a robbery on Doimukh-Sagalee road on April 4 and seized arms, along with a portion of the looted money, from their possession.
Police said here today that acting on a tip-off, one Rakji Natam alias Takia Mara was apprehended from a rented house at Nirjuli yesterday.
Natam was the kingpin of the gang, who, along with one of his associates, had looted Rs 23.27 lakh from a private collector of the Sagalee branch of Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, while he was on his way to Sagalee from Doimukh in a private vehicle.
One US-made pistol with two live rounds and a magazine besides Rs 4,68,500 was seized from their possession, the sources said.
Natam is a seasoned criminal, also wanted by Daporijo police in Upper Subansiri district, for various offences, including murder, theft of arms and robbery, police said.
The investigating team had earlier recovered the unregistered motorcycle used by the robbers from a deep gorge near the place of robbery.
Efforts were on to nab the other accomplice and recover the remaining amount, sources added.
