30 Tata Project Labourers injured in road accident
Hooghly, Apr 07 (UNI) At least 30 contractual labourers of the Tata Motors' small car project in Singur were today injured when their vehicle met with an accident on Delhi Road near Maitypara area in the district.
Sreerampore Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajay Thakur said the labourers, all residents of Sundarban area, were travelling from the Keshtopur-Baguiati area north of Kolkata to the project site when the mishap occurred.
The injured were rushed to the Uttarpara state general hospital where the condition of 15 was stated to be critical.
Hospital Superintendent Dr Ranjit Ghosh said two of the injured were shifted to the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, officials of the Bally police station seized the vehicle, the SDPO said, adding that an investigation was launched.
Earlier, in a freak accident, two persons had died after falling 20 feet to the ground at the Tata Motors' construction site in Singur on April 3. On March 28, the body of a dumper driver with head injuries was recovered from the factory premises.
