Sundergarha town closed after APR personnel went on rampage
Rourkela, Apr 6 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Sundergarha town here today after a few Armed Police Reserve (APR) personnel went on a rampage, looted shops and manhandled some people here.
The town wore a deserted look after 60 APR personnel went on a rampage today, after two of their colleagues were beaten by some unidentified youths last evening.
The duo, who were injured were admitted to Sundergarha district headquarter hospital, are in a serious condition.
Police said tension prevailed in the area but the situation is now under control.
Said some unidentified drunken youths were eating ''gup chup'' a local delicacy, from a mobile vendor near the Sundergarha bus stand yesterday. The youths assaulted the vendor when he asked for payment, police added.
The two plain-clothed APR havildars tried to save the vendor but were also beaten up by the youths. Later, the vendor and the APR personnel were admitted to the hospital in serious condition.
No one has been arrested so far.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
