Puducherry, Apr 6 (UNI) The Union Territory of Puducherry received a representation in the Union ministry after a gap of about 16 years with the induction of Mr V Narayansamy today.

Prior to this, Mr M O H Farrok held the post of the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation during the Narasimha Rao government.

Born to Shri Velu and Iswary in 1947 at Poornamkuppam, Narayansamy completed his education in Puducherry and went to Chennai to pursue law.

He began his political career in 1975 as an office bearer in the youth Congress and held the post of the Puducherry INTUC general secretary from 1979 to 1985.

Narayansamy became the Rajya Sabha member in 1985 and was re-elected in 1991 for a second term. He was appointed as the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president in 2000. He had to burn midnight oil to install a Congress government in 2001 here and it paid.

Presently, he is a Rajya Sabha member from Puducherry.

As Narayansamy was sworn in as a Union Minister this evening, his supporters here broke into celebrations at his residence, burst crackers and distributed sweets to celebrate the occasion.
