Chandigarh, Apr 6 (UNI) Promotion of sustainable Agriculture Strategic initiatives is the new mantra of Haryana Agriculture Department to improve soil health and maintain the ecological balance in the state.

While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Department said that an innovative scheme had been launched for this purpose from the new financial year and a sum of Rs eight crore had been earmarked to promote the sustainable Agriculture Strategic initiatives.

He said that strenuous efforts would be made to encourage the farmers to adopt green manuring for improving the soil health.

They would be exhorted to grow 'Dhaincha' which was an important fast growing leguminous green manuring crop.

The cultivation of 'Dhaincha' fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil and also improves organic matter content of the soil.

Cultivation of 'Dhaincha' for green manuring between wheat and paddy crop would be promoted to improve deteriorating soil health.

He said that equal efforts would be made to promote organic farming and provide pesticide and chemical free food to the people for their better health. This way ecological balance would also be maintained in the state.

To create mass awareness about the scheme among farmers so that they take up green manuring and organic farming, extensive use of print and electronic media and information technological support would be made.

The spokesman said that modernization, integration and computerization of soil, water and seed testing facilities would be made in the laboratories of the state. Furthermore, the departmental personnel would also be trained and equipped with related and practical information which they would impart to the farmers.
