CLP demands action against TDP MLA
Hyderabad, Apr 6 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today demanded Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy take action against Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Karanam Balarama Murty for his ''derogatory'' remarks against the Speaker.
A delegation of Congress Legislators met the Speaker and complained to him that Mr Murty had described him as a ''Sikhandi'' (a character in Mahabharata which is neither a male nor female).
They wanted stern action against the MLA for making such harsh and derogatory remark against the high office of the Speaker.
The delegation, led by CLP Secretary E Pratap Reddy, handed over the newspaper clippings of Mr Murty's statement and CDs containing video clippings.
They also gave video clippings of the remarks made by TDP President and Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu against Deputy Speaker G Kutuhalamma on the Floor of the House.
They complained that though the Opposition leader had made objectionable remarks showing utter disrespect to the august office of the Deputy Speaker, the TDP had edited the Assembly proceedings and was showing to the public and the media only those parts which had no objectionable remarks.
Talking to newspersons after the meet, Mr Suresh Reddy said if the report appeared in the press was true, there was scope for severe action against the TDP MLA.
Responsible persons should not make derogatory remarks against the august office of the Speaker, he said, adding, action was inevitable when such remarks were made.
Stating that he would go through the video recordings and newspaper clippings before deciding on the action to be taken against the member, the Speaker said making such remarks amounted to a more serious offence than the breach of privileges.
