150 Yak births recorded in Gurez in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 6: A record number of 150 Yak births have been recorded in the far flung border area of Gurez in north Kashmir, official spokesman said today.

He said the department of Animal Husbandry has recorded 150 Yak births besides, the cattle population has risen to 30,000 including 4300 cross breed in the border area. Yak is mostly found in Ladakh region.

About 25,000 cattle were treated against various contagious and non-contagious disease during last financial year.

The department also provided medicines on 50 per cent subsidised cost.

He said Rs 4.41 lakhs were provided under NOAPS schemes by Social Welfare department to 315 beneficiaries and under Integrated Social Security Scheme, Rs 1.03 lakh were disbursed among 956 beneficiaries in addition to this 15 sewing machines were also distributed.
