Two-day national conference of Kannadigas begins in Delhi
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) A two-day national conference of the Kannada-speaking people began here today.
The 25th national conference is being organised by the 'Dehali Kannadiga,' a Kannada monthly published from Delhi.
Inaugurating the conference, Union Minister of State for Planning M V Rajashekharan called upon Kannadigas to develop the Kannada language, literature and culture.
He said the central government was looking into the demand for granting classical language status to Kannada.
The conference includes a seminar on Kannada language, literature and culture, poets meet, woman festival, music, dance, drama and other cultural programmes and also a book exhibition.
Awards were also presented to the Kannada-speaking people who have excelled in their chosen fields.
