Surat, Apr 5 (UNI) Surat is becoming eco-friendly with its first special bird hospital in western India ''Beauty Without Brutality'' coming up here at Pal village at an initial cost of Rs 25 lakh.
''There is no specified bird hospital in entire Gujarat and Maharastra, so we decided to start a separate hospital,'' hospital chairman Vishakha Kantawala said.
She said the hospital will have ultra-modern facilities including an operation theatre, library, CD-projector room for treating birds. It will be constructed at the land donated by Annapurna Temple Trust while other expenses will be met by donations received from well wishers.
Ms Kantawala said the main attraction of the hospital will be the 600 sq ft dome, specially prepared so that the birds can have a feeling of the nature after their treatment. The glass dome will have cages specially prepared for the birds needing extra treatment.
''Some birds can't be freed immediately after treatment, those will be kept here under special guidance. Special arrangements have also been created in the hospital for migrating birds,'' she added.
Dr J P Varshney, MVSc, PhD (Medicine) said, ''There is no special laboratory for birds in India as compared to other countries, which conduct advance research works. If this hospital will have PCR, Virus and Bacteria Isolation and a strong laboratory, it can pioneer in research activities.'' UNI XR-PVN NM AE HS1901
