Hemalata Lavanam's contribution to atheism recalled
Vijayawada, Apr 5 (UNI) A commemorative meeting was held at the atheist centre here this evening, to recall Hemalata Lavanam's great contribution to atheism.
A number of eminent people from various walks of life participated in the meeting.
She died on March 19 at the age of 75, after years of illustrious service to the nation.
Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor V Balamohana Das said that Hemalata Lavanam's contribution to jogini reform and rekindling of social idealism was a source of inspiration to the people.
In all her actions the underlying theme was freedom of the individual from the shackles of caste and religion.
She adopted a humanist and atheist approach in resolving social conflicts.
Government of Andhra Pradesh former Chief Secretary, K Madhava Rao said Hemalata was humane in her approach in tackling social and economic problems. Her selfless work and tenacity of purpose inspired many people and she was a role model to the younger generaion, he added.
A large number of people hailing from various parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Orissa participated in the function and paid homage to her.
